Starting in 1974 he spent five years working as the Deputy City Attorney for the City of Concord, California. He was also appointed as a judicial arbitrator for Contra Costa County Superior Court. Mark Commerford is one of the original board members of OPUS, drafting its articles of incorporation, bylaws, and obtaining its tax-exempt status in 1994.
